BIOBIB - Information

DEVELOPMENT OF BIOBIB: Work on this database was started in 1992 [1]. At this time there were few biomass analyses available in the literature and these were mostly incomplete and sometimes even contradictory. In any case, such data were insufficient for a complete overview of the properties of biofuels for thermal conversion purposes. The 1992 project financed the analysis of 94 different samples of biomass fuels which were analysed by standard analytical methods in order to obtain comparable results. For each sample the same analytical size was tested and the same testing procedure was used. Particular attention was given to those biofuels which could be considered as energy crops in central Europe. In a second step the database was extended by results recorded in various scientific publications and using similar analysis techniques [38]. A number of analyses of different biofuels, mainly data from woody biomass, were found in this period. The credibility of the data was checked and the data were imported into BIOBIB. In a third step mainly biomass-waste-assortments [20] such as waste wood, particle boards, husks and shells from different plants, industrial residues and others were added to the database in order to cover all areas of biofuels. BIOBIB was also accepted as IEA project during TASK X, Activity one.

FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF BIOBIB: In the future the Institute of Chemical Engineering, Fuel and Environmental Technology will extend and correct BIOBIB. We are interested in further biomass analyses to insert them into BIOBIB. Multiple analyses of the same biomass type can be used to calculate average values, thereby improving the quality of the data. All data received is assessed for correctness before being inserted into BIOBIB. Submission of new data or any comments concerning the BIOBIB best submitted to the e-mail address given below:
